Websites added to the Level10s Directory should be quality sites that contain significant original valuable content. Sites that have one or more of the following qualities will not be listed and should not be submitted:
Cloaking, Doorway Pages, FFA pages, Mirror Sites, Redirects, or anything we think may be SPAM
Illegal, violent, hate sites or sites that harm the public good in any way
Adult, Gambling, Online Pharmacy, Fake Diploma, Deceptive/Scams, or Tobacco Sites
Sites with sections under construction or sites with significant broken links.
IP Address URLs
Free domain web sites such as (geocites, ebay shops, angelfire, etc.)
Sites featuring mostly affiliate links or who’s primary purpose is to show advertising without unique content
Websites delivering Spyware. (Does not apply to spyware removal software)
Proper URLs
Only submit the shortest URL that represents a significant body of content. The optimum URL is only the domain, e.g. www.leveltendesign.com.
Level10s does accept links to subdomains and internal pages if those pages represent a significant body of work on a subject different from the main domain's, e.g. www.leveltendesign.com/L10Apps/HC/ is a mini-site for the LevelTen Hit Counter and is acceptable as an independent listing from www.leveltendesign.com. However, doorway and site internal pages, e.g. www.leveltendesign.com/portfolio.php does not represent a significantly independent work from www.leveltendesign.com and will not be accepted.
Proper Titles
Use the correct title. You will usually find the correct title on the site itself. If not, IE users should check View > Source to find the correct title and Netscape users should check View > Page Source.
Keep the title as brief as possible. Some titles will need abbreviations in order to fit in the allotted space. Sites submitting long, keyword spamming titles will be edited or rejected for inclusion in the directory all together.
Use proper abbreviations. Example: The University of North Carolina could be abbreviated UNC in a long title.
Use initial caps in titles. Do not use all CAPITAL LETTERS. Example: LevelTen Design, not LEVELTEN DESIGN. Using all caps is considered rude netiquette, and is difficult to read.
Capitalize the first letter of the first word and all main words, but not conjunctions (and, but, or, for, nor, so, and yet), short prepositions (such as to, on, at and in), or articles (a, an, and the) unless they are the first word of the title. "The" is capitalized if it is part of a proper name such as The MET or The New York Times.
Do not use "The, A, An, or similar words" to start a title. If the title is a proper name, such as a book, newspaper, etc., the title would be entered American Heritage Dictionary, The or New York Times, The. Otherwise, a site with the title The Joy of Cajun Cooking would be entered as Joy of Cajun Cooking.
Proper Description
Write a brief, objective phrase or sentence about the site, and what it offers or features about the product or service.
Do not use superlatives, e.g. "The Best" or "Cheapest Prices" unless verification by a credible independent party is provided on the site.
Describe a unique feature of the site. Remember that site design and navigation are part of the rating, not the description. Chat, multimedia, and e-commerce may be part of the features described.
Use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Proofread your descriptions.
Write out the meaning of acronyms, which may have been used in the title.
Do not start your description with "This site" or anything similar, as it is obviously a site. You may start with "Features..." or "Offers...." or similar wording.
Do not repeat the site title in the description.
Do not use all CAPITAL LETTERS.
Do not capitalize the first letter of every word in the description.
Do not use quantities in your descriptions, as they will probably change and your description will no longer be accurate. As an example, use "Features downloadable programs..." rather than "Features 25 downloadable programs..."
Write descriptions in English, and notate in the description if the site is multilingual or only available in a language other than English.
